News from Delhi Math Jaya Srila Gurudeva

News from Delhi Math

News from Delhi Math

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-vinodehariji.

Srila Gurudeva’s condition has improved radically over the last few days, and specifically since 10th October (that terrible day). It has got better since yesterday's report. Last night he was talking and joking with the devotees. Sudevi and Kishori Mohan brought in his soup, and Madhava Maharaja tasted it, as he tastes everything that is brought in for Srila Gurudeva. Gurudeva said, “Hey, is that supposed to be for me? Then why is he eating it?” The devotees brought it to him and he ate it himself from the bowl with a spoon. (They are using porcelain utensils and spoons for him at the moment.) Mostly he is taking liquids, but he specially asked for kitcheree, and the doctor said to give him a very, very little (like a spoonful). It is important to build up his appetite for eating. He rested well last night, and this morning he was alert, talking with devotees, conversing with devotees coming in from different parts of the world. He has given brief, Bankebehariji-type darshans, for a few seconds before the curtain is drawn again. This morning, for the first time for several days, he came out onto the balcony so that devotees could have darshan. At one point this morning someone came out of his room and said that he was sitting and reading.

Srila Gurudeva has three distinct drips: one is for hydration, one gives amino acids, and one gives special fats. This morning, he looked at his arms and asked, “Where is it?” The devotees pointed at his feet, which is where the drips are situated now. He laughed: “Oh!” Our Srila Gurudeva is Baladeva-prakash, and Baladeva is the source and basis of the spiritual and material world, yet Gurudeva is making himself completely dependent on his devotees.

There is a very sweet mood of cooperation in the temple, in tending Srila Gurudeva directly, and in others function going on around him. Madhava-priya and Krishna-kripa Prabhus are tending him constantly. They have looked after him before, and were with Srila Bhakti-promode Puri Goswami Maharaja in the last four months of his stay on this world. They are very expert at understanding what Srila Gurudeva wants and needs.

The kirtans at Srila Gurudeva’s door, tended by Manjari Didi, are especially sweet – a lot of beautiful female energy (because a lot of qualified ladies are taking part), with lovely melodies and moods, very gentle karatalas and mridanga, sometimes slow, sometimes up-tempo, always to make a loving mood around Srila Gurudeva and the area where he is being tended and treated.

Doctor Ray is returning to the Philippines tomorrow, but he is instructing the devotees very carefully so that they can continue with the diet and treatments that he is prescribing and carrying out so successfully.

We are moving forward one day at a time, not knowing the significance of each day’s events in the broader context. What will happen if Srila Gurudeva comes through this health crisis (as we hope and pray will happen)? How much longer will he stay? What will be his next pastime? We do not know. But taking it one day at a time, Srila Gurudeva’s health is improving steadily, and he is more and more comfortable. That is a cause for great joy.

Today is the last day of the Commonwealth Games, and a group of devotees have left the Math determined to distribute 1,500 books today.

Aspiring for service Sri Hari, Guru and Vaishnavas,

B V Nemi
